New York, New York
I recently took a trip to New York city and here's how it went down:
Day 1 // friday, march 4th 2011
After landing in Newark | New Jersey, we took a 30 minute cab ride down to our Hotel |Room-Mate Grace| in New York City. We unpacked and quickly got situated so we could hit the crazy streets of Time Square. Although we had no idea where we were going and had only walked about half a block, we realized we were already in Time Square! Luckily our hotel was way closer than I could ever hoped for and imagined. Time Square is everything you see in the movies and more. The lights, the huge screens on buildings, the millions of shopping stores, the crazy traffic and people walking everywhere; it's overwhelming. We walked down the streets just obsorbing all that our little small-town eyes could. Not long before we knew it, we had already made our way to Central Park. The weather was cold so the grass wasn't too green but the views were still amazing, with horses and carriages and tons of tourist whom none of them seemed to speak a lick of English. We traveled on and continued to do the whole sight-seeing experience thing which took the rest of our time for the day.
Later that night, we headed to Key Bar in the East Village area. It was my a friend of a friend's birthday celebration who also happened to be from Louisiana, so of course we had to stop by. Being that she is from Louisiana and also happens to have a birthday that falls around Mardi Gras, you know she had to bring pieces of home to her party; such as king cake, beads, green, yellow, and purple balloons. It was great being around people from home on our first night out. It felt as though we were not surrounded by strangers. We hung out there all night then made our way back to the hotel to cap off day one in the big apple.
Day 2 // saturday, march 5th 2011
The shopping and walking continues! We made our way to SoHo {an area in Manhattan} which is a famous location known for it's fashion and shopping centers. That alone took up most of time exploring and roaming the streets. I was on a mission to find DASH {the Kardashian's clothing boutique} but never got the chance to see it :( SORRY KIM! ha!
Blake heard of a great sushi restaurant called Nobu, so we figured we'd try it out since we were in the SoHo area. Little did we know, the restaurant did not open to the public until 45 minutes of our arrival. So more walking and searching it is! We scouted around for any opened restaurant and found another local sushi place, ate there, then headed back to Time Square; this time in a taxi! The walk back would have been unbareable.
We made our way back to Time Square to see what the night life was like. I believe the streets were brighter at night then during the day time. All the lights on the skyscrapers literally hurt your eyes, yet it was beautiful. We saw ourselves displayed on a huge screen on the Forever 21 building and played with that for a while. After that got old we saw and heard people trying to sell comedy show tickets, so we scoped that out and ended up going watch my first live comedy show. I believe it was best part of the trip. We laughed and laughed at the 3 comedians who rotated between eachother at a local comedian hall called HA! After that ended, we met up with Blake's cousin, Michael, and headed to an Irish Pub next door to our hotel called Connolly's. There, they had a live cover band and great drinks and atmosphere. After we were done with that we headed next door to our hotel only to notice a HUGE line and a bouncer outside our hotel. APPARENTLY, our hotel turns into a club on Saturday nights called Gift. We went inside to see what it was all about. There was a live DJ, a pool, a theatre screen above the pool, a bar and 3 different levels with seating and balcony. We spent the rest of our night there enjoying the music, drinks, and people-seeing.
Day 3 // sunday, march 6th 2011
First thing Sunday, we hit up MoMA Museum. Little did I know what I was walking into. Artist works such as Picasso, Modrian, Van gogh, Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol and much, much more flooded the museum. I was in art history heaven! I was surprised at how much history I had remembered of these pieces. [yay me!] It was definitely a once-in-a-life time opportunity. After the museum, it was on to waiting in line in the pouring rain for BROADWAY TICKETS! There is a special booth in Time Square named TKTS where you can get your broadway tickets at a discount price. All you have to do is wait for the day the show is playing, stand in line, and pick out your show. I definitely reccomend it. We choose to see Chicago the Musical. My first choice was Wicked but tickets are known to be sold out because of it's popularity. Before the show, we stopped at a local dinner which ended up being be a "Singing Restaurant" where all of your waitresses take turns singing a tune while you eat. I'd say it was pretty cool and different.
After eating, we finally made our way to our broadway show | Chicago [the muscial]. I'd say the show was alright. I was expecting more of the glits and glam, but they seemed to keep it true to the original of the "old New York" style. That lasted about 3 hours or so then capped off our night.
Day 4 // monday, march 7th 2011
This was our last day to actually get out and enjoy New York's city life one last time. We made our way to the Apple Store which had great architectural work and of course cool merchandise. After that, we visited Chinatown where we ate at this local restaurant. We ate pho and curry which were great at great prices! ($6 dollars for a huge bowl of pho) Later that night we ended our day with drinks at Tonic; a karaoke bar in Times Square. All-n-all, I LOVE NEW YORK.

be creative&smart with your daily routine
Being creative doesn't always have to refer to fine arts and crafts, it can be done with ideas and decisions you make in everyday life! One main thing that is in everyone's daily schedule is food. We ALL eat, and with New Year's resolutions on everyone's mind, loosing weight and staying healthy is probably top of the list. Well, for me it surly is! When you think of loosing weight you automatically think of dieting. But dieting isn't always the answer. I've learned that you don't have to give up the foods you love, all you have to do is alter your decisions. It's SO easy! One of my favorite dishes is pizza. Of course if you order out, the calories are thru the roof! What I've done, and you can too, is make a pizza from scratch. It's easy, quick and fun.
First of all, it's best to use a whole wheat crust that you can buy at any local grocery store. Also, another way to cut the fat in half without depriving your taste buds is to use turkey pepperonis and reduced fat shredded cheese. Changes like these can make a world of a difference. Other ingredients for toppigs are tomato sauce, mushrooms, spinach, diced onions and bell peppers, and any other vegetable that you prefer. I also use rotel for an extra kick of flavor. Get creative! Bake it in the oven at 360 for 20 minutes and wah-la, you have a great healthy snack that everyone can enjoy. If you do weight watches, like I do, the point system is about 5 points a slice! Enjoy!

Inspiration is everywhere, if you look hard enough...
In my spare time, I find joy in painting things that I am inspired by.
The human body is one of those things that I feel holds true beauty
with lines, curves, and shadows that can easily be conveyed into a
piece of art. I came into painting this human figure as a request from
my mother who wanted a nude art piece for her Christmas gift.
Upon painting her request, I decided to put an abstract twist into the
art work to make it more visually appealing and colorful.
Materials: Acrylic on Canvas
This second painting came to be after the one above. I loved the concept so much that I wanted to create a mini series of the naked body. This one is more abstract with tons of texture. I plan to a few more to make a collection.
